Jane's Walk

Jane's Walk is a Canada-wide event that helps bring people together to learn more about their community - by foot. This annual walk honors the legacy and ideas of urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs. Jacobs championed the interests of pedestrians over a car-centered approach to urban planning.

On Saturday May 4 and Sunday May 5 2013 over 40 Jane's Walks will take place across the city. If you're not familiar with the walk, take a listen to he audio posted below. As you'll hear, Jane's walk is for people who enjoy learning about local history, architecture, food - and more. This particular walk has been a favourite for many years, and will be featured again during this year's event.

For more information on this annual event, visit the official Jane's Walk website.

Forget planting a vegetable garden this summer! If you're looking for fresh ingredients for your soup, stew or salad, just head to the closest city park. In this segment which aired on May 6, 2011 on All in a Day, Alan Neal gets a lesson on urban foraging - a Jane's Walk that will be offered again this year.
