Writers Festival: Irshad Manji, September 21

Join Lucy van Oldenbarneveld (CBC News Ottawa 5, 5:30 & 6) at the Writers Festival tomorrow night (Sept. 21) where she will host an event with best-selling author Irshad Manji.

Irshad Manji, will present her latest book Allah, Liberty & Love: The Courage to Reconcile Faith and Freedom.  When she's not writing, Irshad teaches moral courage at NYU's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, is a Globe and Mail columnist and a scholar with the European Foundation for Democracy.

Her previous book, The Trouble with Islam Today, was a #1 Canadian bestseller and earned international recognition and inspired Manji's Emmy-nominated PBS film, Faith Without Fear. The New York Times has called her "bin Laden's worst nightmare" while the Jakarta Post in Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim country, has identified Manji as one of 3 women creating positive change in contemporary Islam.

The event will get started at 7 pm and is located at the Mayfair Theatre, 1074 Bank Street. Tickets cost $15 ($10 for students/seniors) and are available on the Writers Festivals Website.
