On the Coast Valentine's Mix Tape contest winner!

Congratulations to Cathy Cole who takes home the On the Coast Valentine's Day mix tape from Innovative Audio!

Here is her winning e-mail entry:

Hi there!

You may not think that there could be a romantic mixed tape story involving the music of RUSH however my story will prove otherwise.

Back in about the year 2000, I was a struggling single mom who was putting herself through school and supporting herself on student loans (thus the reason that I still had a cassette player in my car in the year 2000!).

I had recently started dating (my now husband) and was in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend in Nevada. When the subject of music came up, he mentioned that his favorite band of all time was RUSH.

I associated RUSH with Geddy Lee's scratchy nails on chalk board voice and with my high school days when teenage boys sat in huddles smoking pot and drinking while analyzing and dissecting the meaning of Neal Pearts lyrics in the epic album 2112.

In an effort to convince me otherwise, my boyfriend created a mixed tape for me of RUSH songs that I'd never heard before. These included Open Secrets (Hold Your Fire), Alien Shore (Counterparts), Ghost of a Chance (Roll the Bones), Grand Designs (Power Windows), Entre Nous (Permanent Waves) and my favorite, Resist (Test for Echo).

Not only did he make this tape for me but he also hand wrote out all the lyrics and sent those along for me to follow as I listened (see one page enclosed). It is one of the most romantic things he's ever done and suffice it to say that I am now indeed a RUSH fan and in awe of Neal Pearts lyrical abilities. I've been to many concerts with my now husband and RUSH holds a particular place in my heart that very few women understand.

Thanks for holding this contest - it allowed me to dig out the hand written songs and reminisce over this challenging yet romantic time in our lives. We even named our cat Geddy :).

And here is a copy of those hand-written lyrics!
