Political History:The former riding of Guelph was won in 1995 by PC candidate Brenda Elliot, who later served as environment minister and then as community, family and children's services minister. In the old riding of Wellington South, Liberal Harry Worton won eight consecutive terms from 1955 to 1985. The Liberal legacy was continued by Rick Ferraro in 1985. Ferraro was re-elected in the redistributed Guelph riding in 1987, beating NDP candidate Derek Fletcher. Fletcher bounced back to unseat Ferraro in 1990, winning by over 3,000 votes. Fletcher's 1995 re-election bid fell far short as he finished third behind PC winner Brenda Elliot and a resurgent Ferraro. Elliot went on to hold the environment and energy portfolios. She was re-elected in 1999, in the new Guelph-Wellington riding, and served as community, family and children's services minister under Ernie Eves. Elliot held the seat until 2003, when Liberal Liz Sandals defeated her by almost 3,000 votes. Guelph (027)Candidates:
