Julia had a "scope" done on her knee Tuesday to clean up her meniscus. It went very well - now she can extend and flex her knee through a full range of motion - fully extended and fully bent so her heel touches her bum. She can now "kick herself in the butt!" right onto the podium.
I was with her for the scope then drove her home to unpack, re-pack and have a good sleep in her own bed for the first time in over a month. We were up and at'em early Wednesday morning because Julia is off to the city for intensive physiotherapy with her physiotherapist, Chris Napier.
Chris has had a lot of experience with athletes and has worked with the Alpine Ski Team in the past. This season he was hired to work and travel with the skicross team. We picked him up on the way to Julia's surgery and he was in the operating room with Dr. McCormack to see exactly what is going on with Julia's knee. How's that for dedication. Dr. McCormack is the "Olympic Doctor" (Chief Medical doctor for the Olympics). His resume is very impressive.
Julia is carrying the torch in Whistler, B.C., on Friday at 7:00 p.m. PT at Skiers Plaza.
Go Julia Go!
