Team Canada storms into quarter-finals
The hockey world wanted to see Canada clash with Russia in the gold-medal final at the Vancouver Olympics, but instead the two powerhouse national teams will meet in the quarter-finals. The edgy Canadian men gathered themselves for a decisive 8-2 victory against the Germans on qualification Tuesday to earn the right to face the Russian Bear on Wednesday.
Canada's McIvor wins skicross gold
Ashleigh McIvor stood on Cypress Mountain, one race away from standing on top of the world. Moments later, the 26-year-old from Whistler, B.C., was crossing the finish line into "the most amazing moment," becoming the first Olympic champion in women's skicross as the sport made its debut at the Vancouver Games.

Rochette 3rd behind Kim, Asada
Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette earned a standing ovation Tuesday night at the Vancouver Olympics, landing in third place for a short program skate just two days after her mother's sudden death. Skating to La Cumparsita by Gerardo Hernan Matos Rodriguez, the 24-year-old Rochette put on one of the best performances of her career under any circumstance, earning a personal-best 71.36 points in the short program at the Pacific Coliseum.
