Team Canada falls to U.S.
Brian Rafalski scored twice as the U.S. national men's hockey team beat Team Canada 5-3 in their preliminary-round showdown at the Vancouver Olympics on Sunday night. Chris Drury, Jamie Langenbrunner and Ryan Kesler had the other American goals. Eric Staal, Dany Heatley and Sidney Crosby replied for Canada.
Groves wins silver in 1,500, Nesbitt left out
Ottawa speedskater Kristina Groves won her second medal of the Vancouver Games on Sunday, a silver in the women's 1,500 metres. Christine Nesbitt of London, Ont., also had a chance to reach the podium for a second time in the Games.
Skater Rochette's mother dies in Vancouver
Joannie Rochette's Winter Olympic hopes have taken a tragic turn. Therese Rochette, 55, mother of the Canadian figure skater, died early Sunday at Vancouver General Hospital, two days before her daughter is to take the ice in the women's singles competition.
Canada's Virtue, Moir lead ice dance
Canada's Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir have taken over the lead heading into the final portion of the Olympic ice-dance competition in Vancouver, scoring a personal best of 68.41 points in Sunday's original dance. Their total is 111.15 going into Monday's free dance.
Canada's Martin earns semifinal berth
Cold as the ice he curls on and absolutely focused, Canada's Kevin Martin took a giant step forward in his quest for a gold medal in men's curling at the 2010 Winter Olympics by winning his seventh game in a row and clinching the top seed for the semifinals.
