The U.S. is proving to be the team to beat at the Vancouver Olympics thus far.

American athletes made a beeline to the medal podium Wednesday, winning six medals on the day (two gold, three silver, one bronze). As a result, the U.S. overtook Germany in the overall medal standings (14-10), leaving Canada (with six total medals) to eat its dust.

At the Torino Games in 2006, Canada placed third with 24 medals behind Germany and the United States, with 29 and 25, respectively.

Roger Jackson, the head of Canada's Own The Podium program, had predicted the U.S. and Germany would take a commanding lead in the first week of the Vancouver Games, while Canada would play catch-up in the second week of competition.

What do you think?

Do you think the U.S. will go on to finish first in the overall medal count? Will the American team continue to dominate the Games? Or can Canada come from behind to overtake its neighbour to the south?
