Snowboard cross competitor Maelle Ricker of North Vancouver was still shaking hours after becoming the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic gold medal at home. The 31-year-old finished well ahead of the three other competitors in the final heat, en route to her first Olympic medal in three appearances at the Winter Games.

Evgeni Plushenko of Russia leads the men's figure-skating competition after scoring 90.85 in the short program Tuesday night at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. But the top three competitors, who all skated clean programs, are separated by less than one point. Toronto's Patrick Chan is in seventh place.

Martin wins opening 2 games in curling

Canada's Kevin Martin is 2-0 after the opening day of men's curling at the Vancouver Olympic Centre on Tuesday. Martin posted a 7-6 extra-end win over Norway's Thomas Ulsrud in the morning draw and a 9-4 victory over Germany's Andy Kapp in the evening.

Canada's Bernard edges Swiss in curling opener

Cheryl Bernard led Canada to a 5-4 win over Switzerland in the women's curling opener at the Vancouver Olympic Centre on Tuesday.
