The starting goaltender's job is his to lose, but the NHL's career leader in virtually every major category hasn't lost much this season.
MARC-ANDRE FLEURY, G, Pittsburgh Penguins
Age: 25 Hometown: Sorel, Que.
Olympic experience: None
Cool in the clutch. His save on Nicklas Lidstrom in the dying moments of Game 7 clinched Pittsburgh's 2009 Stanley Cup win.
ROBERTO LUONGO, G, Vancouver Canucks
Age: 30 Hometown: Montreal, Que.
Olympic experience: Torino (2006)
The only NHL player that wears both the 'C' and a trapper, but projected as backup. Gave up three goals in two games at Turin.
DAN BOYLE, D, San Jose Sharks

Olympic experience: Torino (2006, alternate)
An elite puck mover and power-play quarterback. Kills penalties and logs big minutes at more than 25 minutes per game this season.

Blessed with mobility and smarts. Well ahead of the usual learning curve for a 20-year-old.

An exceptional shot blocker. Likely to be used in shutdown situations and on penalty kill.
SCOTT NIEDERMAYER (C), D, Anaheim Ducks

Favoured to be named Team Canada's captain. The only player to win every North American and international championship.
CHRIS PRONGER (A), D, Philadelphia Flyers

No free rides for opposing forwards from the chippy former Hart and Norris Trophy winner. Does his best work when in a foul mood.

A solid, smooth-skating defenceman with exceptional first-pass skill. Helped push the Blackhawks deep into the playoffs last spring.
SHEA WEBER, D, Nashville Predators

Hard-hitting rearguard. Aggressive with a booming shot. Voted top defenceman at the last world championship.
PATRICE BERGERON, C, Boston Bruins

Bounced back from last season's concussion problems and impressed a selection committee looking for a checking-line centre.

Expected to fulfill the role of sniper on what is expected to be Team Canada's top offensive line.

Need a leader, big goal or someone to drop the gloves? Look to Iginla. He will be a huge factor on offence.

Former captain of the Sharks enjoying a career year skating alongside Dany Heatley and Joe Thornton.

An NHL captain with the desire, speed and tools needed to put the puck in the net.
RICK NASH, LW, Columbus Blue Jackets

A power forward with great hands and speed. A dynamic stickhandler. Will be a big presence on the power play.
COREY PERRY, RW, Anaheim Ducks
Age: 24 Hometown: Peterborough, Ont.

A big winger who eats up big minutes, plays with an edge and exceptional in traffic. Hope is he will mesh with Getzlaf.
MIKE RICHARDS, C, Philadelphia Flyers
Age: 24 Hometown: Kenora, Ont.
Olympic experience: None
Team Canada's shutdown centre. A point-per-game skater and top-notch penalty killer. Defines energy and grit.
ERIC STAAL, C, Carolina Hurricanes
Age: 25 Hometown: Thunder Bay, Ont.
Olympic experience: Torino (2006, alternate)
Recovered from a shaky start to prove himself worthy of more than a reserve spot. Had 5 points in final game before selection.
JOE THORNTON, C, San Jose Sharks

Olympic experience: Torino (2006)
The former Hart Trophy winner will be asked to centre the top line, regardless of past failures in pressure situations and playoff woes.
JONATHAN TOEWS, C, Chicago Blackhawks

A gritty, well-rounded centre capable of playing in any situation. Likely a leading candidate for shootouts.
