Canada's women's bobsleigh team looks to be peaking at the perfect time.
Kaillie Humphries of Calgary, and Heather Moyse of Summerside, P.E.I., set start and track records on the way to a gold medal in the World Cup event at Altenberg, Germany, on Saturday.
"It was a really good race," Humphries said. "I'm very excited by the result."
Teammates Helen Upperton and Jennifer Ciochetti were right behind for the silver medal while Americans Shauna Rohbock and brakeman Michelle Rzepka took third to complete a North American sweep.
This was the first-ever 1-2 finish in the sport by Canada and it was led by the driving of Humphries, who set the track mark of 56.79 seconds in the first of two times down the course.
"We pushed amazing. I tried to drive as consistently as possible," Humphries said.
A start record of 5.74 seconds on the second run led to a combined time of one minute 53.60 seconds. Upperton and Ciochetti clocked 1:54.03, thanks to a second run that moved them from fourth to second.
