There’s a miniature version of the Great Wall – looking spiffy and new. It’s the six shooting platforms, each looking like a beacon tower, spread over a field area.
The designers wanted to create a link between this event and the giant landmark by creating a much smaller one.
Located in Shijingshan District in west Beijing, the venue used to be the Shooting and Archery Center under the State General Administration of Sport. And the shooting range will host five shooting events, including men’s trap, women’s trap, men’s double trap, men’s skeet and women’s skeet.
The main building is the viewing gallery overlooking the field, as well as an operational centre on the ground floor. There are almost 5,000 seats at this venue, and luckily more than half are covered with a steel-structured wooden canopy. Those sitting beyond the realm of the canopy will have to make due with the sun or rain so best to bring an umbrella.
Hopefully the athletes will also enjoy the quasi-historical setting as they compete on shooting platforms inspired by real ones built thousands of years ago.
