Not only does this university offer degrees in agronomy, but also law, economics, literature and medicine. It also has a strong sports program, which probably explains why the China Agricultural Gymnasium was built for the Olympics to host the wrestling events.
Located in northwest Beijing, the building looks like black triangle with its ends cut off. The façade is made of panels and in the middle are the five Olympic rings.
Inside is a spacious area that seats 8,500 spectators for the Games and in the middle are three octagonal-shaped elevated stages for the wrestling matches. There is also an auxiliary training area for the athletes. That space will be turned into an indoor swimming pool after the Olympics.
For the Paralympics, the gymnasium will host the volleyball seating competition. After September, students, faculty and residents in the area will use the gym as a multi-functional facility for such indoor sports as badminton, volleyball, gymnastics, table tennis and handball.
