The program provides adventure-based learning for at-risk kids on Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
The 37-year-old Hughes won the medal in the 5,000 metres Wednesday at the Winter Olympics. It was the final race of her Olympic career.
Hughes, a native of Winnipeg who now lives in Glen Sutton, Que., said she didn't want to leave Vancouver without making a contribution.
After winning gold at the 2006 Turin Olympics, Hughes donated $10,000 of her own money to the charity Right To Play.
