Under heavy criticism for underperforming at the Vancouver Games, the Canadian short-track speedskater responded Friday by winning gold in the 500 metres and the 5,000-metre relay on the final night of competition.
Hamelin, from Sainte-Julie, Que., had endured personal disappointment in the 1,000 and 1,500 races earlier in the Games, failing to reach the podium despite high expectations. He is the current world record holder in the 1,000 and was considered a medal contender in the 1,500.
But in one night's work, he became the first Canadian man to win multiple medals at the Vancouver Olympics.
Does Hamelin's performance Friday make up for his falling short earlier in the Games?
