Months of fevered anticipation came to an end Tuesday night as Team Canada posted an emphatic 8-0 victory over Norway in its opening game at the Olympic men's hockey tournament in Vancouver.
Following a nervous and goal-less opening 20 minutes, Canada went on a rampage over the final two periods, outshooting its underdog opponent 42-15.
Jarome Iginla (three goals) and Dany Heatley (two goals) led Canada offensively, while an underworked Roberto Luongo recorded the shutout.
Tuesday's game marked the best start yet for Canada in the four Olympics since the NHL shut down its schedule to participate. Canada defeated Belarus 5-0 to open the Olympics in 1998, dropped a 5-2 decision to Sweden four years later and downed host Italy 7-2 to raise the curtain on the 2006 Winter Games.
What did you think of the game?
Did Canada live up to your expectations? Were you worried after the Canadians were held off the scoreboard going into the first intermission? Which player were you most impressed with?
