The National Post looks back at the 39 gold medals the nation has won in Winter Games history.
Name Ross Rebagliati
Olympics 1998 at Nagano, Japan
Event Snowboarding

The setting The Olympics in Nagano marked the debut of Olympic snowboarding. Rebagliati finished third in World Cup standings the year before and finished eighth in his first run at the 1998 Games.

On the day Rebagliati rallied from the back of the standings to win gold but was later disqualified when his drug test showed he had marijuana in his system. The snowboarder fought the decision, arguing that the drug was not performance-enhancing and eventually allowed to retain the gold medal.

Afterlife Rebagliati announced in October 2009 that he plans to run for the federal Liberal Party nomination for the Okanagan-Coquihalla riding in British Columbia -- where the seat is presently held by Stockwell Day.
