The setting Canada's last shot at claiming a medal in Nagano came down to the relay team of Gagnon, Bedard, Campbell and Drolet. Gagnon was looking for a second chance after falling in the 500-metre race the day before.
On the day The team captured Canada's 15th medal at the Nagano Games, edging South Korea in the final, and helped set a new national record for medal totals.
Afterlife Gagnon and Bedard would reunite at the next Olympics in Salt Lake City to win another gold in the 5,000-metre relay. Drolet retired after the Olympics, and Campbell followed in 2000.
