There are sore losers and then there's Russian figure skater Evgeni Plushenko.

Plushenko, the 2006 men's figure skating gold medalist, lost out to American figure skater Evan Lysacek. Plushenko's routine included the difficult quadruple jump but judges penalized him on artistry and having a less polished routine, while Lysacek skated a less-difficult but artistically-sound routine that eventually won him gold.

To rectify this great injustice Plushenko awarded himself a platinum medal. The faux medal, which looks a little like the silver that Plushenko actually won, is featured prominently on the skater's official website.

Plushenko was even awarded a platinum medal by Russian TV host Alexei Popov

"You already have one gold and one silver so here's a platinum medal for you," Popov told the skater. "You are the real champion."
