Everyone knows Oprah's likes are big business. A word from her Oprah-ness can turn a 127-year-old Russian novel into a best-seller, persuade consumers that crochet Uggs are aesthetically advisable and even inspire one Chicago actress to spend a year living by the talk show host's teachings.

But the Hudson's Bay Company red Olympics mittens didn't need Oprah's help -- HBC's run of 3 million mittens is reportedly almost sold-out.

On a recent show, Oprah greeted Matt Lauer wearing the coveted hand gear

"I am so humiliated," said Lauer. "I was all set to talk about the hot souvenirs here, and I was going to tell you that nobody, nobody can get a hold of these red Canadian mittens, and that we had scoured the entire country to find one pair for you, and you open the show wearing the darn things. That is so cold, Oprah" said Lauer.

"I got connections," said Oprah.

Uh, yeah. "Connections" is something of an understatement, as it's hard to name anyone else with the clout to score 300 pairs of the mittens without turning to eBay, where the mitts are selling for at least double their $10 original price.

Lest we doubt her commitment to the U.S. Olympic team, Oprah gave out the Canuck-supporting mittens while wearing a red, white and blue polo from Ralph Lauren's Olympic uniform collection.
