Freestyle skiing: Women's moguls
The Contenders
Women's moguls wasn't on the list of events at the inaugural Winter Games in Chamonix. On the flip side, the 1924 event 'military patrol' won't be contested in Vancouver. Things change, in other words, and freestyle skiing has been a change for the better when it comes to Canada's medal count. A demonstration sport at the 1988 Games in Calgary, women's moguls may provide the first Olympic gold won by a Canadian on home soil. North Americans dominate this event, with 12 of the top 20 skiers in the World Cup Standings. Canadian Jenn Heil is the favourite, and she knows what it takes, having won gold in 2006 in Turin.
The Top 5 (World Cup standings)
1. Jennifer Heil, CAN
2. Heather McPhie, U.S.
3. Hannah Kearney, U.S.
4. Shannon Bahrke, U.S.
5. Kristi Richards, CAN
Canadian Medal Hopes
See Heil, above, but don't forget Kristi Richards, who could challenge for a medal.

When you've had to shore up the snow-hungry venue with hay, anything can happen.
