The Contenders
Germans, Germans ... and more Germans. Tatjana Hufner won five of the World Cup races this season. And when she didn't, she came second to teammate Natalie Geisenberger.

The Top 5
    1. Tatjana Hufner, GER 755 pts
    2. Natalie Geisenberger, GER, 710
    3. Anke Wischnewski, GER, 509
    4. Erin Hamlin, USA, 447
    5. Nina Reithmayer, AUT, 383

Canadian medal hopes
Alex Gough is counting on some strong finishes this season (three fourth-place finishes) and the benefit of a 2006 Olympic experience as an 18-year-old to carry her to the podium in Vancouver. Gough was seventh on the World Cup circuit this season, while three-time Olympian Regan Lauscher struggled and will need a big day to grab a medal at her third Games.

Dark horses
American Erin Hamelin is young, raw and the first non-German woman in 99 races to win when she took gold at the 2009 worlds in Lake Placid. She's had three third-place results this season and is knocking on the door.
