Let's be honest: cheap eats and trying your luck at dinner time isn't for everyone. Sometimes, what a growling belly needs -- especially after a long, hard day of cheering on Team Canada -- is the guarantee of great food and, often, that guarantee comes in the form of fine dining.
Now, we're not saying that you'll be disappointed by the sushi in Richmond or the burgers in Kitsilano (in fact, quite the contrary!), but rather that if your idea of a great meal tends to involve a bottle of wine and carefully arranged microgreens, you're in luck, as three of Vancouver's most celebrated restaurants have curated Olympic-themed menus.
First (and foremost), is Lumière, the sister restaurant of db bistro moderne, the celebrated chef Daniel Boulud's Vancouver resto. To commemorate the winter games, Lumière will be open for lunch daily (only until Feb. 28), and will offer a "Gold Medal Menu" that changes daily. Reserve quickly, though -- eating Boulud's Olympic menu will likely be as much of a story to tell as watching Team Canada clinch its first gold. Details
here.
Next up, Le Crocodile, yet another French offering in downtown Vancouver. Their Olympic menu -- also on offer until the 28th -- is prix fixe, with a $65 dollar lunch and a $95 dinner. Check out the full menu
here.
Finally, L'Altro Buca is offering an Olympic menu akin to Le Crocodile's, though themed offerings will be available at dinner time only. The menu -- which is Italian -- includes a local tuna antipasto, shellfish linguine and rack of lamb. It's all basic stuff, but it's guaranteed to satisfy -- even if, on the particular day of your reservation, Team Canada doesn't. Check out L'Altro Buca's Olympic menu (link to the left)
