Home-track advantage should play into the hands of Kaillie Humphries and Helen Upperton, especially in an event won and lost by fractions of a second.
Here is a look at the women's two-man bobsled competition, which gets under way at 8 p.m. ET:
The Contenders
With two of the top 5 pilots on the World Cup tour, this is one of those events the Canadian Olympic Committee is banking on for a medal. But we all know how that's worked out so far at these Games. Watch out for the Germans, especially Cathleen Martini, who has won four races and finished second on two other occasions this season.
The Top Five (World Cup rankings)
1. Sandra Kiriasis, GER, 1608 pts
2. Kaillie Humphries, CAN, 1563
3. Cathleen Martini, GER, 1545
4. Shauna Rohbock, USA, 1530
5. Helen Upperton, CAN, 1442
Canadian Medal Hopes
Home-track advantage should play into the hands of Kaillie Humphries and Helen Upperton, especially in an event won and lost by fractions of a second. Humphries had three podium finishes in her last four races prior to the Games, with the other being a fourth. Upperton, meanwhile, will be relying on her experience of having competed in Turin, where she just missed out on a bronze.
The Dark Horse
They've already dominated the slopes, why not the track? American pilots Shauna Rohbock, Erin Pac and Bree Schaaf are all ranked in the top 10 this season. Rohbock won at Whistler a year ago during a test event.
