Jasey Jay Anderson gave up the snowboard-cross to focus on the parallel giant slalom this year. There's talk he might call it quits to spend more time with his family after this Olympics, so it could be his last shot at winning a gold medal in the parallel giant slalom.
Here is a look at the men's parallel giant slalom competition (snowboarding), which starts at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday:
The Contenders
Between Benjamin Karl and Andreas Prommegger -- Austria could be unstoppable here. Karl is the World Cup leader this season and won the world championship in 2009. Prommegger is a close second in the standings and beat his teammate at the last World Cup race of the season in Quebec for a second straight year.
The Top Five (World Cup standings)
1. Benjamin Karl, AUT, 4800
2. Andreas Prommegger, AUT, 4190
3. Jasey Jay Anderson, CAN, 3800
4. Michael Lambert, CAN, 2940
5. Rok Flander, SLO, 2400
Canadian Medal Hopes
Jasey Jay Anderson gave up the snowboard-cross to focus on the parallel giant slalom this year. There's talk he might call it quits to spend more time with his family after this Olympics, so it could be his last shot at winning a gold medal in the parallel giant slalom. He sits third in World Cup standings and his best finish in an Olympic event is fifth place in the snowboard-cross. Michael Lambert and Matthew Morison are also in contention, as both won World Cup events on the circuit this year.
The Dark Horse
While Phillipp and Simon Schoch haven't fared too well on the World Cup circuit this season, it is probably not a good idea to count out the brothers just yet. They are Switzerland's finest when it comes to snowboarding and finished with gold and silver respectively last Olympics.
