The ice dance compulsory program gets under way on Friday night at 7:15 p.m. ET. Here is a look at the competition:
The Contenders
Controversial routine aside, Russia's Oksana Dominina and Maxim Shabalin will be a viable gold medal threat in ice dancing. The pair offended Australian Aborigines with their theme at the European championships and have not said if they changed the routine for the Olympics.
Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White that could edge the European champions. Davis and White have been strong in international competition this season.
The Top Five (ISU Rankings)
1. Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin, RUS
2. Meryl Davis and Charlie White, US
3. Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, CAN
4. Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto, US
5. Sinead Kerr and John Kerr, GBR
Canadian Medal Hopes
Canada's Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir have a good chance of winning a medal on home soil. The pair took silver at last year's world championship.
The Dark Horse
Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto of the U.S. could come out of the woodwork to challenge their fellow countrymen for a spot on the podium. Belbin is a native of Canada, but became a dual citizen when she could not find a partner in her home country and went to train in Detroit.
