Vancouver's crime rate might of taken a surprising drop during the Olympics, but 11 officers kicked off the 10,000-strong Integrated Security Unit at the Olympics probably helped increase that number a little this week.

The officers are being investigated for misconduct, including one senior officer charged with shoplifting. Two other officers are under investigation by the Vancouver Police Department for an undisclosed reason.

According to Reuters, the officers were sent back to their home detachments because of the alleged misconduct. The term misconduct can refer to a number of violations, including skipping shifts, being drunk on the job, or as in the case of the aforementioned senior officer, shoplifting at a retail store in Burnaby while off duty.

Security for the 2010 Winter Games is one of the event's largest money burners. The federal government has committed nearly $1-billion for security in Vancouver, and that amount could rise once the event concludes at the end of next week.
