On Thursday I watched Christine Nesbitt win gold in a gut-wrenchingly close race where she pushed through the pain to win by 2 1-hundredths of a second. Then on Friday, seeing Jon Montgomery win gold here in Whistler ignited Canada's spirit all over again.

With the temperature at plus-12 degrees, not a breath of wind, and perfect sunshine, Mother Nature certainly gave us a remarkable day (even if it was unseasonably warm) to help run the Olympic torch along its journey on Tuesday in New Westminster, B.C.

The dirty truth came out

I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful Christmas and Holiday season. I spent a relaxing Christmas at our home in Chilliwack with David's family. It was wonderful to be surrounded by loved ones and to read all the notes from well wishers coming in through e-mail, facebook, the website guest book and even through the traditional media.
Thank you to everyone for their support - it will be needed to help me through this road to recovery.

- Kelly Vanderbeek Canadian alpine skier Kelly VanderBeek has reached the World Cup podium three times in her career. Her most cherished accomplishment came when she earned a bronze in the super-G at the famed Lake Louise course in Alberta, becoming the first Canadian female skier to reach the podium on home soil. VanderBeek nearly captured a medal at the 2006 Torino Games, missing the podium by just 0.03 of a second. Born in Kapuskasing and raised in Kitchener, Ont., VanderBeek now resides with husband, and fellow Olympian, David Ford in Chilliwack, B.C.
