Don't blame Vancouver, blame global warming

WHISTLER, B.C. -- Canada's fair, Western jewel is being pummeled in the international press for, among other things, the weather.

To be honest, the pummeling, to these Eastern Canadian eyes, is somewhat deserved. But maybe that's just because this humble scribe has been planted in Whistler for seven days and seen about 77 minutes worth of sun.

So then, what if the Olympic rings had been put on some other city's fingers? Would the weather be any better anywhere else? What if PyeongChang, South Korea, or Salzburg, Austria -- the other two bidders from back in the day -- had got the nod over Vancouver? Would David Letterman be cracking wise about Mozart's hometown?

Thanks to the magic of Google, we see that the skies are currently cloudy in PyeongChang. The temperature is a chilly, snow-preserving -7. Wednesday will see a mix of sun and snow, with a high of plus-1 and a low of -14. Friday promises more of the same. It sounds almost like winter.

And Salzburg sounds almost like Vancouver, with a mix of sun and rain and temperatures above zero.

But our Western jewel is one of a kind. After being drowned for days the blue skies are back in Lotusland, and the thermometer is heading for the low teens.

It is perfect weather for a Spring Olympiad.
