- Jim Hughson Hockey broadcasting veteran Jim Hughson began his impressive NHL broadcasting career in October 1979, joining CBC'S Hockey Night in Canada in 2005. Hughson's 29-year storied career as a sports broadcaster includes calling Wayne Gretzky's final game in Canada at the Corel Centre in April 1999 and countless NHL, OHL and AHL games. Hughson also called play-by-play for the Vancouver Canucks on Sportsnet Pacific. A Gemini Award-winner in 2004 for sports play-by-play, Hughson was also the voice of Jays Baseball on CBC and has also been part of several national baseball broadcasts, including during the 1992 and 1993 Toronto Blue Jays' championship seasons. Hughson, a native of Fort St. John, B.C., enjoys spending time at his home in White Rock, B.C., with his wife Denise, and children, Matt and Jennifer.
