Chris is coming off winning three gold medals in less than a month. The latest came Sunday at the Winter X Games 14 in Aspen, Colo. One more goal checked off Chris' long list. He longed for that victory since winning Winter X Bronze there in 2006.
On Sunday he showed the world what he was made of. He managed to make the crazy, hair raising, gutsy sport of skicross look like poetry in motion. Some of us watched on TV, some were lucky enough to be there in person. No matter where you were, you could see that Chris was calm, collected and skied with cat-like precision.
The X Games are flashy. They are noisy. They push the envelope. Chris is not flashy. He is not noisy. He does push the envelope though. Some people wondered if he was excited with his win. Here's the thing about Chris: his excitement is a bit different. You can hear it in his voice, you can see it in his eyes. It is a quiet excitement.
Ten days and counting until we will watch the world's best winter athletes take the stage in Vancouver. The Del Bosco family is a bit in awe of the whole process. I stopped to pick up a New York Times (Chris was in the sports section) on Monday evening and the kids at my local Starbucks knew who my brother was.
I have gotten a bit better about bragging and I am delighted at how many strangers know who he is and are actually following his story. We have been humbled by the outpouring of support.

This trip we have taken as a family has been a blessing. I guess maybe we would have enjoyed a different path. An easier one. But if we took that route, I don't know where it would have led us. Amidst all the success, I think this is a good time to say, thank you.
Thank you to Chris. Thank you for taking us along. Thank you for trusting us to aid in your recovery. Thank you for letting us be a part of your team. Thank you for never giving up.
