The Art of Olympic Couch Surfing

When planning a trip to the Olympics: It's good to know people. As you could probably guess, staying at a hotel during an event like this would in all likelihood cost you to finance another mortgage. When the world comes to an event like this, hotel prices are at an all-time high. With the price of event tickets, food and entertainment, the cost of taking in the Olympics can come with a pretty hefty price tag. During the planning of this trek across the country, one of the key questions was: where do we stay? Between Lane and I, we both had a few friends in the Vancouver area that were summoned to help us out with a place to crash. All we needed were a couple of couches.

An Olympic stroll in the village

Our final day in Whistler got off to a somewhat slow start. Still on a high from what we witnessed at the Sliding Centre the day before accompanied with a dominant win over the Russians in men's hockey, Lane and I took full advantage of our final night in the village. We celebrated a great day in Canadian sport into the wee hours of the morning with fellow Canucks... and oh yes... had another good night's sleep on the sectional at Nordic Place. After checking out of Kristen and Johnny's appartment, we had a few hours to kill before boarding our bus back to Vancouver... we decided to pass the time doing something that (believe it or not), we had yet to do, wander the village of Whistler.

Off to the mountains we go...

After spending a few days in Vancouver it was time for a change of scenery for Lane and I. In order to take full advantage of the entire Olympic experience, we boarded a bus to head up to Whistler for a couple of days to meet up with a bunch of friends from Toronto and Lane's hometown of St. Thomas Ontario...not to mention a couple of Olympic events.
