South Korea still perfect in baseball

Last Updated: Sunday, August 17, 2008 | 11:01 AM ET

South Korea defeated China 1-0 in men's baseball Sunday at the Beijing Games, but received a big helping hand from the extra innings rule.

Olympic guidelines stipulate that if the game is scoreless after 10 innings then both teams begin the 11th with runners on first and second.

China failed to score from a sacrifice fly in the 11th as Sun Linfeng was ruled out at third on a double play.

South Korea loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning before Chinese reliever Lv Jiangang gave up a single to Lee Seung-yuop to allow the Koreans to improve their record to 4-0.

With the loss, China fell to 1-3.

The first five and half innings of the game took place on Thursday before rain washed out the contest and forced the action to resume on Sunday.
