(Clive Rose/Getty Images)After letting up enough to finally get one race completed, bad weather returned to the Vancouver Olympics' alpine skiing venue Tuesday and forced organizers to postpone the men's super-combined event and cancel women's downhill training.
Tuesday's men's super-combined race was called off because of heavy snowfall throughout the night and soft conditions on the lower section of the course.
The event was rescheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m. PT.
The men’s super-G race is scheduled for Friday, followed by a super-combined training session Saturday and the super-combined race on Sunday. The giant slalom is slated for Tuesday.
It's the third race that has been postponed on the alpine schedule following the mix of warm temperatures, snow, rain and fog that wreaked havoc with the alpine schedule last week.
Split session
Of the four alpine races scheduled so far, only one has gone off — the men's downhill Monday, which was won by Didier Defago of Switzerland.
The women have had only one official training run, a split session Monday. The women's downhill race is scheduled for Wednesday and the women's super-combined has been moved to Thursday.
The last women's downhill training was cancelled Tuesday, although as the women already got in a full training session Monday, their downhill race can go off as planned. Alpine rules require one complete practice run before a downhill can be held.
Under a plan discussed at a team captains' meeting Monday night, if the men's super-combined is shifted to Friday, that day's race — the men's super-G -- would move to Sunday, and the men's giant slalom would be pushed back to next Tuesday.
The women's super-G is scheduled for Saturday.
