<a href="http://www.johnleesanders.com/">John Lee Sanders</a> has been making music for his whole life.&nbsp; He first performed on stage when&nbsp; with his brother's band in Birmingham Alabama when he was 12 years old.&nbsp; <br />Since then he's played major blues and jazz festivals around the world and worked with most of the legends in the business.&nbsp; He's been nominated for an Emmy and won a bunch of Canadian Music Awards.&nbsp; He's a pianist, sax and guitar player, songwriter and singer!<br /><br /><br />He came to Canada first to work with Long John Baldry and liked it so much he stayed.<br />He's going to be performing at the Powell River Blues Festival and the Pender Harbour Blues Festival early in June and opening for Bonnie Raitt in August.<br /><br />  <!--#include virtual="/contentconnector/embed.html?type=audioclip&id=2239856224"-->]]>

<a href="http://www.peterloeffler.com/">Peter Loeffler</a> taught theatre history for 30 years at UBC.&nbsp; In that time he inspired, motivated and challenged his students and became one of the much loved teachers for students from many disciplines.&nbsp; He was well known for his insightful encouragement of students, his inventive approaches to teaching and his generosity to many.<br /><br />On May 26 a group of theatre alumni from UBC are presenting a series of theatrical shorts followed by a bit of party, all to honour their former professor and to raise money for the <a href="http://startanevolution.ubc.ca/projects/peter-loeffler-memorial-prize/">Peter Loeffler Memorial Prize in Theatre</a>.&nbsp;<a href="http://www.alumni.ubc.ca/events/alumniweekend"> It happens at the Frederick Wood Theatre, curtain at 7;30.</a><br /><br /><a href="http://blogs.theatre.ubc.ca/author/pickman/">Deb Pickman</a> and <a href="http://www.publicaffairs.ubc.ca/2010/05/06/five-who-have-made-a-difference/">Gerald Vanderwoude</a> have some very fond memories of studying and working with Peter Loeffler.<br /><br /><br />  <!--#include virtual="/contentconnector/embed.html?type=audioclip&id=2239645302"-->]]>

There's a photographic and video show on right now at the <a href="http://www.richmondartgallery.org/">Richmond Art Gallery</a> by the Vancouver based artist Hua Jin.
<br /><br />Hua's show is called <em>My Big Family</em>.&nbsp; Hua was feeling very isolated when she moved, all by herself, to Canada so decided on a trip home to follow her family with a camera. The work also explores some of the effects of China's one child policy.<br /><br />Hua Jin is a recent graduate of Emily Carr University.

On June the first the doors will open on a brand new show at the <a href="http://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/">Royal BC Museum</a> featuring dozens of portraits of Queen Elizabeth II taken by the multi-talented Cecil Beaton.&nbsp; The images in the show range from shots of Princess Elizabeth as a young child and trace her official life (with some surprisingly domestic moments) up to 1968.<br /><br />Lorne Hammond is curator of history at the RBCM <br /><!--#include virtual="/contentconnector/embed.html?type=audioclip&id=2236908749"-->]]>

Pianist <a href="http://www.janecoop.com/">Jane Coop</a> is one of Canada's most distinguished musicians.
She has recorded and toured extensively throughout North America, Asia and Europe.
She has collaborated with the principal Orchestras of Canada.
And she has taught at the University of British Columbia's School of Music for more than 3 decades.
But now Jane has decided it's time to move on from the university and begin the next chapter in her life with a focus on performing.<br /><br />She will be playing a farewell concert with friends on Sat May 26 at 4 pm at the <a href="http://www.music.ubc.ca/">Barnett Hall, UBC School of Music</a>.
