Meet Poetess Mayaan Asmoucha

She's only just graduating from Grade 4 at Vancouver's Charles Dickens Elementary School - but young Mayaan Asmoucha is making a mark with her poetry.

Mayaan won first prize in the national Polar Expressions poetry contest, winning cash for herself and her school - but also the right to be published in a book of writing by young Canadians.

Her winning entry was a poem about Valdes Island in the Gulf Islands off the BC coast - where her parents and grandparents have gone for the respite of nature for years.
