Artist Jacquetta Nesbit.

Jacquetta Nesbit in her wonderful studio
It was such a pleasure to visit artist Jacquetta Nesbit in East Sooke recently.  Jacquetta is a weaver and a painter with an international following.  She and her husband moved to BC recently from California and have been welcomed into the very creative community of East Sooke.

Jacquetta has a wonderful enthusiasm for her painting and her tapestry work, which is influenced by her passion for the arts of many cultures around the world. These days she is learning about BC First Nations art and carving.

Jacquetta will be part of the East Sooke Fine Art Show, May 4,5 and 6,

Art Deco Chic at the Museum of Vancouver

Art Deco Chic exhibit at MOV

The Art Deco Chic exhibit currently on at the Museum of Vancouver  is a huge hit with fans of fashion, history, the Art Deco period - and devotees of all of the period dramas that are so hot in TV and film right now.  Programs like 'Downton Abbey', the silent film 'The Artist'  - and plans for a new film adaptation of 'The Great Gatsby'.

For whatever reason, the early part of the 20th century is big in the Zeitgeist right now.

The MOV's exhibit - sub-titled 'Extravagant Glamour Between the Wars' is a dramatic, unusual collection of haute couture dresses and accessories from the early 1920's to the late 1930's.

Most of the 66 gowns and many of the accessories are from the personal collection of fashion historians Ivan Sayers and Claus Jahnke.

Pamela Post went to the MOV on the day that Ivan Sayers was touring his UBC fashion students through the Art Deco Chic exhibit - and she takes us along for a fascinating return to a more glamorous era...

Roller Derby rocks!

rollerskaters-have-more-fun-2-promo.jpg
When you think of Roller Derby what comes to mind?  Maybe it's the theatrical costumes, the player's creative names and personas or perhaps it's the full contact body checks at top speed!
Roller Derby is big all over BC and on Saturday you'll hear from three women who are in love with the sport and all that it offers.

My guests are Lisa Suggitt or Roller Girl from Vancouver, an icon in the sport, Jayne Allen or Lucky 13 from Kamloops and Twyla MacDonald or Ruby Whipper from Courtenay.
