Lisa See in the Studio One Book Club

We were thrilled to host Lisa See in the Book Club.  She's a critically acclaimed and best selling author of  Snowflower and the Secret Fan, Peony in Love, Shanghai Girls and Dreams of Joy. Her first book was On Gold Mountain which tells the story of her extraordinary family history in Los Angeles.

I enjoyed each of the novels immensely.  I started with Snowflower and the Secret Fan and when I found myself crying buckets while reading the story of two friends in 19th century China I knew I was going to enjoy meeting Lisa See and getting to talk to her in the book club.

Each of these novels is set in a different and very interesting period of Chinese history.  Besides being engrossing stories with vivid characters they are a window into times and places I really knew nothing about.

I haven't read On Gold Mountain yet but when I ran into author Judy Fong Bates at the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts this weekend she told me it was amazing.
We recorded this Studio One Book Club at the Dr Sun Yat Sen Chinese Garden in Vancouver.
