Return to Byzantium: The Art and Life of Lillian Broca

When film maker Adelina Sugavau met artist Lillian Broca at an art opening a few years back she was struck by Lillian's art and by her life story. In fact she was so struck that she spent  years working on a documentary called Return to Byzantium.

The film tells Lillian's  story, from her early childhood in Romania, her flight from that country with her family and her career as an artist.  It takes us into her studio where she creates incredible mosaics and along for the ride as Lillian returns to her home land for the first time in over 50 years.
The documentary has been screened and won prizes at film festivals in the U.S. It's Canadian premiere is November 8 at the Ridge Theatre as part of the Vancouver Jewish Film Festival
