Riding Profile: It covers the growing population of the Spryfield/Fairview/Armdale/Bedford area. The residential community takes in Spryfield, Fairview, Fairmont, Armdale and Cowie Hill.

The northern boundary is Vimy Avenue, the eastern boundary is the CNR line to Chebucto Road and south of Chebucto Road, while the eastern boundary is Herring Cove Road as far south as McMullen.

 

Political History: An NDP stronghold through the 1990s.

2003: NDP Graham Steele received 46 per cent of the vote and defeats LIB Susan Hayes by 1,155 votes. PC Bruce MacCharles got 1,684 and NSP David F. Boyd received 94.
2001: NDP Graham Steele defeats LIB Jeremy Akerman by 1,143 votes in a byelection.
1999: NDP Eileen O'Connell defeats PC Nayarana Swamy by 1,498 votes.
1998: NDP Eileen O'Connell defeats LIB Bob Britton by 2,052 votes.
1996: NDP Eileen O'Connell defeats PC Rossana Liberatore in a byelection by 3,184 votes.
1993: NDP Alexa McDonough, incumbent from Halifax-Chebucto, defeats LIB Art Flynn by 1,231 votes. She resigns to run for the federal NDP leadership.

Voter Turnout: 53 per cent in 2003.
