July 24, 10:40 a.m. - Nova Scotia Party not on the block?

I read with interest the July 22 story about the CBC's decision to not include the Nova Scotia Party in the election debate as I'm one of many voters who is thus far undecided as to how to cast my vote come August 5. For the record, I know little to nothing about said party and don't feel strongly about their chances in any way. However, I would have liked to have thought that in an election where "all three" parties are rehashing the lowest common denominator of issues and not speaking where their individual strengths are that a fourth voice on the stage might have shaken things up a bit.

Graham was predictably soft and came across as an American-style politician, Hamm was predictably astute, and Dexter tried his best to be Joe Taxpayer’s friend. The three put together made for a neopolitan blur of rhetoric and repetitive (and stale) accusations of one another.

What this election needs is a kick in the pants and I for one would have thought a new and fresh voice at the stand, no matter how much of a long shot, might have been a good thing. Alas, including a relatively obscure party with little in the
way of a proven track record might well have been too controversial and disrupted the scripted pace of pre-determined answers, and we all know that that's no way to have an open debate of ideas.
