July 16, 8:43 a.m. – Shelburne County There are some very important issues in this county which will not be addressed because of the preponderance of the old-line parties. Those issues are the Roseway Hospital and its continued degradation from its once proud status; the El Paso plan for a sour gas plant in western Shelburne County jeopardizing the fishery, the environment and life style; and --very important--the cost of insurance. In Shelburne County one has to have a car - they arenot just a luxury. There is no public bus service. I, for instance, live six kilometres from a small grocery store, 30 km from a super store (which is not all that super). O'Donnell and Huskilson are incapable of addressing these issues. O'Donnell, we are told, will get votes by appealing to the dinosaurs in our community because he voted against his party on equal rights for gays. What an issue to be known for! Huskilson has paid enough for his huge, in-your-facesigns to pay for a year's groceries for someone on welfare. What a choice! - Kathleen Tudo
July 16, 10:43 a.m. – Parties on the environment I'd like CBC do some in-depth reporting on the parties' and candidate's records on environmental issues and any election platforms about the pressing environmental issues all over this province. Is any party thinking of increasing the availability of public transit within and between communities as a way to reduce high insurance fees? - Pat Kipping, Halifax
July 16, 3:11 p.m. - The long-term health of our environment Unfortunately the nature of our political system tends to steer candidates away from discussing long-term issues, particularly those that are controversial. One of the most important issues that we need to address in a much more serious manner is the health of our natural environment into the future. We need the leadership and collective decision-making role of our governments to help us all protect our environment, but this issue is rarely given more than cursory attention in any election. I would like to hear from the candidates about their views on mechanisms of habitat protection and restoration that we can pursue in this province, such as the implementation of the Endangered Species Act and the completion and management of the protected areas system. - Annette Luttermann, Dartmouth
July 16, 3:19 p.m. - Environmental issue Am interested in what the concrete plans are of the three main parties with regards to more protected places. When would they bring in more areas, how many more, and where are these areas? - Lewis Hinks
