Riding Profile: A growing and diverse suburban constituency includes many people who commute to
Halifax to work; a smaller number still depend on fishing for their livelihoods.

This riding hugs the Atlantic coast towards Peggy's Cove, and includes Timberlea, Prospect, Lakeside, Beechville, Goodwood, Parkdale, Greenwood Heights and Lakeside. In the recent redistribution, it lost the Westwood Hills subdivision and northern Hammonds Plains area.

Prospect includes some expensive homes and real estate overlooking the ocean. The population is 20,220, and the average income is $30,640, well above the provincial average.

Issues: The condition of the roads, the state of the environment and foreign ownership of shoreline property are all issues in this riding.

Political History: The riding has changed hands among the three parties over the years. This campaign is a rematch between the NDP incumbent and former Liberal MLA Bruce Holland.


1999:	NDP Bill Estabrooks defeats PC Ken Fralick by 1,756 votes.
1998:	NDP Bill Estabrooks defeats LIB Bruce Holland by 1,454 votes.
1993:	LIB Bruce Holland defeats NDP Bill Estabrooks by 698 votes.

Voter Turnout: 65.5 per cent in 1999.
