Riding Profile: This fast-growing riding is part of the Halifax Regional Municipality and takes in the urban area of Lower Sackville and the Sackville Business Park. It's served by an out-patient/emergency clinic called the Cobequid MultiService Centre.

The population is now 22,030 and the average income is $27,320. Unemployment is about seven per cent and most people work in Metro Halifax. Education levels are higher than the provincial average.

Issues: Issues include access to health care, education, the price of car insurance and Sunday shopping.

Political History: This riding, formerly known simply as Sackville, was created in 1993. NDP MLA John Holm has owned the seat since he first ran in Sackville nearly 20 years ago, but is not running this time. The Liberal candidate in 2003 is Halifax deputy mayor Bob Harvey. The NDP candidate is a paramedic and the PC candidate owns a restaurant.


1999:	NDP John Holm beat PC Wade Marshall by more than 2,000 votes to take 56 per cent of the popular vote. LIB candidate Kevin Perkins was third with 1,235.
1998:	NDP John Holm defeated LIB Jack Brill by 3,778 votes.
1993:	NDP John Holm, the incumbent from Sackville, defeated LIB Don Boutilier by 1,885 votes.

Voter Turnout: 64 per cent in 1999.
