Gas Prices in Nova Scotia

For the past six years, CBC News has offered a weekly price prediction for gas prices. We began this service in order to warn people about possible large swings when the regulated price is set every Thursday at midnight. Our prediction was based on the same formula used by the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board to set its prices.

However, the regulating body is presented with a range of options and selects one of them. There is no way of knowing which option the UARB will pick. The result is that our weekly prediction rarely matches the actual change precisely.

We have been tracking the actual price changes over the past several months and have noted that there is very rarely a substantial increase or decrease. We will continue to monitor the predicted change and when a major adjustment is expected, we will report that information.

However, because of the impossibility of making an accurate price prediction every week, CBC News has decided to discontinue this service for the time being.
