The community of Ulukhaktok is waiting on the results of a DNA test after a bear with brown fur was killed 30 kilometres outside the community on sea ice.

Robert Kuptana says he was hunting for polar bears, and never expected to see a grizzly-like animal on the sea ice. He suspects it could be a rare polar and grizzly hybrid.

In April a white and brown bear killed near Ulukhaktok was found to be the second polar-grizzly hybrid confirmed in Canada's arctic. Another hybrid bear was killed on Banks Island in 2006.

Listen as Kuptana tells his hunting story.
