Students from across the Beaufort Delta gathered in Inuvik on
February 12 to test their skills with with hammers, hairdryers, lathes,
drills, measuring cups and other tools.
This was the second time that that Samuel
Hearne secondary school and Aurora College host the Beaufort Delta
Regional Skills Competition.
The competition is organized by Skills
Canada NWT and sponsored by a range of partners including Service Canada
and the Government of the Northwest Territories.
It aims to promote careers in trades and technology.
Northwind's associate producer, Philippe
Morin, spoke with a few teachers and students who travelled from Inuvik,
Paulatuk, Fort McPherson, Aklavik, Tuktoyaktuk, Tsiigehtchic and
Ulukhaktok.
He also spoke with Inuvik's Pat Harrison, who demonstrated techniques for carving soapstone.
Some of the top medal winners at the competition will travel to the Territorial Skills Competition in Yellowknife on April 21.
