TRINITY-BAY DE VERDECandidates:
Current MHA: Charlene Johnson (PC) District profile: It covers the eastern edge of Trinity Bay and the tip of Conception Bay. Many of the communities along the shore have been struck by the collapse of fish stocks. The district includes the communities of: Bay de Verde, Cavendish, Dildo, Grate’s Cove, Green's Harbour, Hants Harbour, Heart's Content, Heart's Delight, Heart's Desire, Hopeall, Islington, Long Beach, Lower Island Cove, New Harbour, New Perlican, Northern Bay, Old Perlican, Red Head Cove, Western Bay and Winterton. In the 2007 redistribution, added a small chunk of Carbonear-Harbour Grace while losing 16 per cent of the district to Bellevue. Population: 10,032 Political history: Since 1982, voters in the district have elected representatives to government benches. 2003: Charlene Johnson unseated longtime Liberal MHA Lloyd Snow, winning by 1,996 votes. 1989-2003: Snow held the seat for 14 years, with victories in four elections. 1982-1989: PC Jim Reid held the seat for two terms, before leaving politics. 1975-1982: Liberal Fred Rowe won the seat in the 1975 and 1979 elections.
