Current MHA: Gerry Reid (LIB). District Profile: Formerly Twillingate and Fogo district, this eastern coast district incorporates much offshore territory, including Twillingate Island, Fogo Island, New World Island, Black Island, Eastern Indian Island, Western Indian Island, Change Islands and Bacalhao Island. Area is heavily dependent on the fishing industry. Renamed in the 2007 redistribution. Population: 10,160. Political history: Twillingate and Fogo were separate districts until their union in 1996. Both were staunchly and historically Liberal; In the 40 years of its existence, Twillingate voted Tory just once, in 1982. Fogo was Liberal from Confederation until 1989. 2003: Reid defeated PC Derrick Dalley by 607 votes. Reid became provincial party leader in May 2006. 1999: Reid beat PC Gerald McKenna by 1,877 votes. 1996: Gerry Reid trounced PC Terry Reid by 2,196 votes.
