Current MHA: Harvey Hodder (PC) – currently Waterford Valley MHA. District profile: New suburban district includes the northern part of the city of Mount Pearl and part of the town of Paradise. District was created in 2007 using 79 per cent of the old Waterford Valley district and smaller sections of Mount Pearl and Topsail districts. Population: 11,828. Political history: Waterford Valley 2003: PC incumbent Hodder won, taking 73 per cent of the total vote. 1999: Hodder defeated Liberal Paula Buckle by 800 votes. 1996: Hodder was re-elected in the new district of Waterford Valley, defeating Liberal Barrie Heywood. 1993: Hodder defeated Waterford-Kenmount Liberal incumbent Eric Gullage by 894 votes. 1989: Gullage defeated PC Ralph Tucker, by 759 votes. Gullage served as municipal affairs minister in the Liberal cabinet. 1988: In a byelection, Gullage defeated Tucker by 200 votes. 1975-1985: PC Gerry Ottenheimer held the former district of Waterford-Kenmount during this period; he had previously held other seats.
